In Very Hard Mode, talk to Muramasa at his shop and give him 35 Golden Scarabs.
Hint: Yellow Essence
When you are just about to fight Doku, you'll be in the water. By now you should have the spear gun and the oxygen tank. There will be five fish in the area. You can either go to the junction chamber or take the elevator to the Monastery. Instead of going to either place, swim about half way through the tunnel to the junction chamber. Then turn and swim back all five fish will be back. If you kill all five with the spear gun, you'll get around 1000 yellow essence credits per fish. Repeat until you reach 999,999 yellow essence credits. That's as much as you can get. Go through the elevator and the Monastery and then outside to the right is the shop, go nuts and upgrade.
Hint: Yellow Essence Farming
During chapter thirteen, when you first get to the bridge, there will be three huge zombie-looking things. Equip the upgraded Dabilahro, stand on the bridge itself and hold down the Y button, charging your Ultimate Technique. Wait for the enemies to get close enough to hit, and then let the Y Button go to unleash your Ultimate Technique. It’ll take a few of those to kill them, but they drop a large amount of Yellow Essence worth about 700 small Yellow Essences. Once you’ve collected them all, go through the door with the blue circle on it, and go through it again to get back to the bridge. The enemies will reappear, so you can do this over and over again.
Unlockable: The Art of the Ice Storm
In Very Hard Mode, talk to Muramasa at his shop and give him 10 Golden Scarabs.
Unlockable: Normal

Unlockable: Armlet of Potency
You must bring Muramasa 5 scarabs.
Hint: Essence Farming (Chapter 13)
During the game’s thirteenth chapter, you will leave the aqueduct and head across a drawbridge. Here, you will encounter a trio of Mercenary Fiends. Run away and charge up your True Dragon Sword/Unlabored Flawlessness UT. Use it on the foes as soon as they’re in range. Block, roll away, and repeat the process as necessary. With the Armlet of Benediction equipped, you can get about 8,500 essence per enemy. You can easily max out with this technique in twenty minutes.
Hint: Unlimited Essence
In the Aquaducts, you go down a stone elevator. Afterwards, you meet some bugs. Killing them all will get rid of them, but leaving one alive will make them respawn when you leave the room. Cycle this room and you can bag essence until you're bored or dangerously close to death.
Unlockable: The Art of the Inferno
In Very Hard Mode, talk to Muramasa at his shop and give him 1 Golden Scarab.

Play the game for over 1 hour.
Hint - Yellow Essence

Unlockable: Play Ninja Gaiden (NES)
Collect all 50 Scarabs and turn them in to the shop to receive the Ninja Gaiden cartridge. Take this to Han's Bar and play it on the arcade cabinet.
Hint: Flee!
On the 5th mission, there is an instance where a load of black ninjas appear and gang-bang Ryu. Instead of risking losing too much life, start running back towards the courtyard outside the monastery. Just as you clear the alley's entrance, head back inside and the enemies should be gone and will not reappear.
Unlockable: Spirit of the Devils in Very Hard Mode
In Very Hard Mode, talk to Muramasa at his shop and give him 20 Golden Scarabs.
Hint: Gold Essence Farming
If you follow you would be able to upgrade all weapons, and max out all your items, except for Ninpo.
At the chapter where you start to chase Doku's spirit in th maze after you use the griffen key to open the gates, Ayane throws a dagger saying something about using your flail to destroy the ghost fish. Instead of using your flail use the dragon sword, and keep jumping back and forth tapping the (x) button in the air.
The move is called ( air destruction slash ) once all the fish are destroyed just go back to the gate and then head back in all fish would be back, and if you do it right i guarantee you wouldn't loose any life, unlike the flail, because once the combo is done the fish have a chance to attack you, while with this technique they wouldn't and also because jumping around causes Ryu to absorb the yellow essence as soon as they come out, it is alot better than using the flail and then waiting for all the fish to be destroyed and then to get it because by the time there all destroyed most of them would have dissapeared.
I've done it more than once and maxed out everything...

There will be a save point and one of Muramasa's shops. You should have the Armlet of Fortune, which picks up more Gold Essence, equip it. Down the hall,bats will swarm you. By now you should have obtained the True Dragon Sword, and Doku's Ketitsu. Get one out and run over the bats, they will swarm you, occasionally hittng you. Charge the sword you have chosen to max, then release, this will kill all the bats emmiting only Gold Essence.
You will recieve around Three-Hundred Gold Essence, or more. Run back in front of the save point, then run back, the bats have reappeared. When you need health, don't use an Elixer to heal, you run over to the bats and kill all of them with an uncharged attack, this will make Gold and Blue Essence appear.

Unlockable: Ninja Dog
Die three times consecutively in Chapter 1. Ayane will ask you, "Do you really give up the way of Shinobi?" Answer yes to begin Ninja Dog Mode.
Unlockable: New Missions
The first 10 Missions will be available from the start. Once you complete the first 5, and then 5 more will be unlocked. The rest follow in this pattern (five at a time) until all 50 have been unlocked.
Unlockable: Arcade Ninja Gaiden
Complete the game on Ninja Dog or Normal difficulty with the "Ninja Gaiden Arcade" item. Or, complete the game on Hard.
Unlockable: Very Hard
